Roo

I've just popped back from Rich's site and Lin's recipe page.
MMMMMmmmm food.

This reminds me, I cooked the kangaroo steaks a couple of weeks ago.

Dive was over here to help set up my new mac so it was a good enough reason to try something new.
It was quite simple fare in the end, a quick mushroom & onion sauce with chilli, wine, garlic and lots of black pepper. New potatoes, lightly crushed and mixed with spring onions (scallions for Rich), butter and wholegrain mustard, petit pois for a bit of colour and the roo whacked onto a hot griddle pan and cooked until medium rare.

It was bloody fantastic. For me it tasted like pork with a hint of liver and the consistency of fillet steak.

I will get some more.

Zebra or wildebeest is next.

Wow you've changed your clothes to match the Mac!
The thing which persuaded me to your recipe was the texture of fillet steak. My favourite.

You could have cooked yourself a crumble of course for pud, recipe of sorts for which you can get at my Things.

Aren't you the adventurous epicurean! Sounds great with the exception of the mushrooms. Gah . . . I loathe mushrooms!

So you ate the roo.
I'll take the fillet steak a la cow anytime.
Having been on a roo shoot I couldn't eat one of the poor things.
Even when I saw the devistation they cause to crop fields (complete havoc) I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor buggers.

So zebra - are you going to char grill it to get those nice stripey burn lines into the meat?

It was yummy.
Can I have some more, please.

And ladies: Full's a great cook, he's clean in his habits, has a glossy coat, is toilet trained and he knows his way around an ironing board.
Form an orderly queue.

You know that the biggest market for that stuff here is as dog meat, right?

Lynn, I was playing and found the colour changing thing. I'm on my way to the crumble recipe right now.
You keep recipes on your things???

Fresh, sorry about the fungi, and I won't do the joke.
Epicurean is a great word, I must use it in place of greedy bastard.

Kate, I thought of zebra because they have those nice lines to show the butcher where to cut.
I have tried horse and I am assuming this will be similar.
Watch this space or the planet for the verdict at some point in the near future.

Dive, yes you can, so remind me to go to the butchers on Saturday.

Vic, they do the same with the whale meat in Japan. They also used to use it for cheap school meals for kiddies which is why my friend Junya won't touch the stuff these days.
Talking of dog meat, I missed out on a trip to Korea with work a few years ago and the guys who did go had dog meat and said it was o.k.

I see that a 'massive storm surge' is forecast tonight in your area, well not too far away at Gt. Yarmouth. I hope you and yours will be fine, in particular Mum. Hope she's not too close.
My own Mum and Dad are just down the road from your work as you know but i don't think it's going to be a problem there?

Mum is in Beccles, about 9 miles from the coast along with lots of my friends.
I've just been speaking to my mate Lynda who runs a boat yard there and the tide is half way up the yard but not too bad. I've known it worse there.
The only problem will be at the next few high tides if the surge water can't get away from the rivers and broards before the new tide.

Fingers crossed.

Just tell Colin the river has turned to beer. He'll drink it dry.
