Barnes & Barnes - A tribute.

Nipped over to Belgium for a few days last week and snapped a few pictures to kick off some regular posts for Project Blue.
I thought Blue Monday would sound good but that will have to wait because I found this....

Why would anyone build several small water fountains from lobster claws and fish heads unless it was a tribute to the stupendously wonderful Barnes and Barnes song "Fish Heads"

Stick with it....

Woah! What a cool fountain!

As you know, "Fish Heads" is one of the songs I want played at my funeral.
An all time classic.
Hoorah for you for posting it!

If I'm there, I'll make sure it happens.

There were lots of these fountains in the town square, they must have been put there since my last trip in April.

They are pretty cool.

The fountain's great! Can't play the You Tube thing but the problem is all mine.

Had my parents visiting recently (they live 2 miles from your workplace you may remember). Told my Dad where you work - he was most interested, loves cars, adored the things all his life. Into the more classic, old fashioned ones really and is a little past squeezing into a laying down position to drive (he's 76), but he was really keen to know more. He mentioned your site is an old WWII airfield?

Actually i've done old Dad a disservice there - he IS 76 but quite active in fact, not doddery at all. Let's hope he doesn't pop in here and see what i said - he'll have my guts for garters.

In fact, he still sometimes threatens to get a motorbike. Groan. Eek. Help.

We have our 60th Anniversary on September 14th and the whole site will be open to the public.
It will be a great day for car nuts and if you pop back to Dives old post about my magic kingdom you will get the gist of the day.

Our factory at Hethel, is on the site of one of the first heavy bomber airfields built during WWII.
Completed in late 1942, it was used by the U.S. Airforce. The 320th bomb group were the first to arrive but only stayed 10 days then went on to North Africa.
In June 1943 the 389th bomb group arrived flying B24D Liberators.
The group flew 300 missions from Hethel and the Americans left in May 1945.
A Polish squadron of RAF Mustangs moved in for a while and the base was decommissioned during 1948.
Lotus bought the site in 1964 and we have been here ever since.
End of history lesson.

I didn't realize fish heads were so versatile! I think I'll try them at tennis tomorrow!

I'll get Dad to put it in his diary, Full. Thanks.

That particular decoration is offensive to Muslims.

No it isn't.

I asked Taz.
